Many autistic people experience sensory synaesthesia. Synaesthesia means that different senses are cross wired so that when one kind of sensation - like hearing - is stimulated, another kind of sensation - like smell - also responds.
For example, when I hear certain kinds of sounds, I also see coloured lights in my peripheral vision or in the distance in front of me. I can also experience textural touch sensations on my skin and changes in my proprioception, like feeling movement even though I am physically still.
When I spend time with Bats, I experience many different kinds and combinations of synaesthesia. In these watercoloured pen cartoons, I wanted to experiment with showing my visual experience of Bat scents. When I smell Bats, I see their fur colours floating outside of and around their bodies as streams and dots of coloured light.
